FAQ’s
-
All Metro Auto Photo booths print genuine black-and-white film strips.
Most booths accept card and cost between $8–$10 per strip, while the Flinders Street booth remains coin-only at $8.
Prices may vary slightly depending on the venue, but every booth produces the same classic 4-frame strip. -
About 3 minutes.
Our booths use real chemical film, so each strip needs a short developing cycle - just like a tiny darkroom inside the machine. -
Yes. Every Metro Auto Photo booth uses traditional wet-lab chemical processing, not digital printers.
This is why the strips last decades, have real contrast, and never look the same as digital imitators. -
Comfortably: 2–3 people
Squeezed in and giggling: 4–5
We’ve seen some impressive Tetris moments though. -
Most booths are at ground level and suitable for most users.
Flinders Street and RMIT are in open public areas, while indoor booths (PHOTO, Lygon Court, The Curtin, South Melbourne Market) may depend on venue access hours.
If you require specific accessibility information, feel free to contact us. -
Depending on the booth:
Card only on most locations
Coin only at Flinders Street
Card + Coins at The Curtin
We’re keeping the original mechanics alive, even when that means sticking with old coin mechanisms.

Yes! We love seeing them.
Tag @metroautophoto or send strips to our Flinders Street Archive account. -
Yes. Chris and Jessie personally look after the entire fleet - the last custodians of chemical photobooths in Australia.
Every booth is hand-restored, tested weekly and cared for using the same techniques passed down from Alan Adler. -
Not without prior permission.
Our photobooths are for personal use only. Any commercial photography, filming, brand campaigns, advertising, music videos, editorial shoots, or paid content must be approved by Metro Auto Photo in advance. We love collaborating, but the booths are heritage machines and part of wider venue agreements - so commercial use needs to be planned properly.
